Facial Electrolysis — Permanent Hair Removal for Your Face

The only method that truly, permanently removes facial hair.

Facial hair is one of the most personal and emotionally loaded concerns Em works with. Whether it's a few persistent chin hairs, a visible upper lip, a full beard you've been managing for years, or hair triggered by PCOS or menopause — facial electrolysis is the only method that can permanently and completely resolve it.

Bare Hair Electrolysis is located in Riverton, Utah, and serves clients from across the Salt Lake Valley and beyond. Em is a licensed electrologist who specializes in precision facial work — the kind of careful, methodical treatment that leaves you clear, not just improved.

What Is Facial Electrolysis?

Facial electrolysis is the permanent destruction of individual hair follicles on the face using a small electrical current. A hair-fine probe is inserted alongside each hair shaft into the follicle opening. A precisely calibrated current is delivered, destroying the follicle's ability to produce hair. The treated hair is then gently lifted out.

Unlike laser, which damages multiple follicles at once using light energy, electrolysis treats each follicle individually. This is why it's the only method the FDA recognizes as permanently effective — and why it works on every hair color, including the blonde, gray, red, and white hairs that laser cannot touch.

How It Works

Your first visit starts with a free consultation. Em will assess the area, discuss your hair history and any hormonal factors, and answer your questions honestly — including a realistic timeline for your specific case.

Sessions are booked by time (15, 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes) and are completely one-on-one. Em works systematically through the treatment area, treating as many follicles as possible in each session. Between sessions, the area may show slight redness or pinpoint scabbing, which typically clears in a few hours to a day or two.

Hair grows in cycles, which means multiple sessions are needed. A small area like the upper lip may take 8–12 months of regular sessions. Fuller facial clearance — for example, clearing a chin and jaw — typically takes 12–24 months. Treated hairs don't grow back. Progress is real and visible after just a few sessions.

Who Is It For?

Facial electrolysis at Bare Hair Electrolysis is specifically designed for:

  • Women with PCOS or hormonal hair growth — chin, upper lip, neck, cheeks, and sideburns driven by elevated androgens. Laser consistently fails this population because it can't permanently destroy follicles and because hormonal stimulation keeps activating new ones. Electrolysis permanently destroys every treated follicle regardless of the hormonal environment.
  • Post-menopausal women — hormonal shifts after menopause commonly cause new facial hair, especially on the chin and upper lip. Electrolysis is the gold standard treatment.
  • Anyone with light-colored facial hair — blonde, gray, red, and white hairs are invisible to laser. Electrolysis has no such limitation.
  • Clients with darker skin tones — laser carries a real risk of burns, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation on deeper skin tones. Electrolysis is equally safe and effective on every skin tone.
  • Transgender women seeking facial clearance — Em is experienced in full facial clearance for MTF transition and provides explicitly affirming care.
  • Clients who've had laser make things worse — paradoxical hypertrichosis (laser triggering more hair growth) is a real and frustrating outcome. Electrolysis can correct it.
  • Anyone who's simply done with managing it — waxing, threading, and shaving are lifetime maintenance. Electrolysis ends the cycle.

What Results Can You Expect?

Results from facial electrolysis are permanent. Treated follicles cannot regenerate. As you progress through sessions, the density and coarseness of hair in the treatment area decreases visibly — clients typically notice a meaningful reduction after just 3–5 sessions.

For smaller areas (upper lip, chin, brows), most clients reach full clearance within 12–24 months of consistent sessions. For larger areas or those with dense hair growth from hormonal conditions, timelines are longer — but every treated hair is a hair you'll never manage again.

Em sets realistic expectations at your consultation and checks in on your progress throughout treatment. There are no surprises.

Why Bare Hair Electrolysis?

Em has spent her career on the cases that other methods fail. She sees clients who've been told laser "should work" on their skin type and hair color, only to end up disappointed. She sees clients whose PCOS was never going to respond long-term to laser. She sees people who've been managing their facial hair for decades and have simply had enough.

The studio is private, one-on-one, and specifically designed to feel comfortable for people who feel self-conscious about their hair. There are no other clients in the room. Em doesn't rush. And she's honest with you about what to expect.

Bare Hair Electrolysis is located at 2364 W 12600 S, Suite 2D, in Riverton, Utah — inside NABB Permanent Makeup. Serving the entire Salt Lake Valley.

Frequently Asked Questions — Facial Electrolysis

Does facial electrolysis hurt?

Most clients describe each treatment as a brief warmth, tingle, or quick pinch. The upper lip tends to be one of the more sensitive areas; the cheeks and jaw are usually more comfortable. Em always works at your comfort level and can adjust settings. Many clients who come in nervous find it much more manageable than they expected.

Can electrolysis remove gray and blonde facial hair?

Yes — and this is one of the most important distinctions between electrolysis and laser. Laser requires dark pigment in the hair to work. Blonde, gray, red, and white hairs have no dark pigment, so laser cannot treat them effectively. Electrolysis uses electrical current, not light, so hair color is completely irrelevant. It works on every hair color without exception.

I have PCOS. Will electrolysis actually work for my facial hair?

Yes, and it's specifically the right choice for PCOS-related facial hair. PCOS causes ongoing hormonal stimulation that can activate new follicles over time — which is why laser frequently fails this population and requires constant retreatment. Electrolysis permanently destroys every follicle it treats. Even as PCOS continues to stimulate new follicles, treated hairs don't come back. Over time, with consistent sessions, the overall density significantly decreases.

How long does it take to fully clear facial hair?

It depends on the area and the amount of hair. The upper lip with moderate growth is typically 8–12 months of regular sessions. Chin and jaw clearance with dense hormonal growth can take 18–30 months. Em will give you a realistic timeline estimate at your consultation. Progress is visible early — clients typically see significant reduction within the first few months.

Is electrolysis safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, completely. Electrolysis does not rely on color contrast between hair and skin, so there is no increased risk for darker skin tones. Laser, by contrast, can cause burns, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation on deeper skin tones. If laser has been recommended against for your skin tone, electrolysis is the correct alternative.

I had laser done and it made my hair worse. Can electrolysis fix it?

Yes. Paradoxical hypertrichosis — where laser treatment triggers new or denser hair growth — is a documented side effect, particularly in areas like the neck, chin, cheeks, and jawline. Electrolysis can treat the hair that laser created. It's one of the cases Em specifically specializes in.
